Sonos 27 explained: what changes for your system?

The software behind the rooms
Sonos 27 names the underlying system software. Sonos Fabric describes how products coordinate for stereo pairs, room groups and home cinema. Sonos says updates are already rolling out; keep the app current. The Sonos 27 overview introduces the platform.
What is new?
Portable surrounds let matching Play or Move 2 pairs serve as rear channels with supported soundbars. Headphone linking moves system audio to Sonos Ace Ultra and is an opt-in Early Access feature. Read our portable surround guide before planning a pair.
Voice and AI: check the UK availability
Sonos’s announcement places Sonos 27voice in Early Access later this autumn, starting in US English; existing Sonos Voice Control remains the default at launch. Sonos 27mcp connects compatible AI assistants to an authorised system, initially for US-English users. Early Access features can change and have limitations. A UK product page does not establish UK availability for every feature. The official announcement gives the rollout qualifications.
Our planning advice: update before buying
Review what your current system already does well. If the goal is clearer TV dialogue, test the existing settings and placement first. If the goal is music in another room, give that room a budget and a speaker position. A software announcement is a useful reason to reassess the system; it does not, by itself, tell you which hardware purchase will help most.
Turn features into a household plan
Make a short list of the experiences you actually want: fixed surround sound, speakers that travel, private listening or easier controls. Check each one against supported hardware, region and release status. Give currently available functions priority when planning a purchase, and treat Early Access as something to evaluate separately. Compare our Beam Ultra guide and Era 100 SL guide, then use the planner for room allocation and budget. The planner does not model voice or MCP availability.
