Give portable speakers a second job
If you already move speakers between the kitchen and garden, rear channels for film night are another use to consider. Our advice is to evaluate the everyday routine as carefully as the cinema benefit. A flexible system works best when everyone knows where the speakers should go and when they need charging.
Which products work together?
Sonos confirms portable surrounds for two Sonos Play speakers or two Move 2 speakers with Arc, Arc Ultra, Beam Ultra or Beam (Gen 2). Mixing Play and Move 2 is unsupported. Update the system and complete the initial setup in the Sonos app. Sonos positioning technology then assigns rear-channel roles as speakers return, and removes them from the cinema setup when taken away. Plan somewhere to put them
Find stable surfaces behind or beside the seating area. Think about walking routes, children, pets and where the charging bases will live. Try those positions with the furniture you already own before purchasing stands. Our placement guide helps you review the room.
Avoid counting the same pair twice
When the kitchen speakers are behind the sofa, the kitchen loses those speakers. In a household where someone cooks while others watch television, that trade-off matters. The planner allocates owned equipment across rooms and recommends matching pairs for surrounds, but it does not schedule speakers moving between rooms. Decide which room gets priority rather than assuming two speakers cover every job simultaneously.
When fixed rears are easier
